01 / ABOUT

Curiosity grounded
in engineering.

I’m Mohammad Mojammel Huque, a Senior Reservoir Intelligence Engineer at Cenovus Energy, based in St. John’s, Canada.

I work at the intersection of subsurface engineering, data analytics, digital transformation, and automation. I integrate engineering models with operational data to support surveillance, forecasting, production optimization, and engineering decision-making.

I manage Databricks catalog and support engineering data architecture across bronze, silver, and gold medallion layers. My work covers data transformation, modeling, quality improvement, and governance to develop trusted datasets for analytics and engineering applications.

Alongside industry practice, I contribute through scientific peer review and Ph.D. research supervision. My doctoral work at Memorial University investigated cuttings transport in horizontal and inclined wellbores.

04 / SELECTED SAMPLE WORK

Visualizing cuttings transport.

Selected original figures from my PhD research, showing experimental methods, flow patterns, and model validation.

High-speed camera images and schematics showing stationary, moving, and suspended cuttings layers at increasing mud velocities.

Fluid rheology and cuttings transport

High-speed imaging shows how drilling-fluid rheology affects particle transport. Increasing fluid viscosity produced a larger fraction of cuttings transported in suspension rather than remaining near the bed.

Flow-regime map relating Reynolds number and fluid velocity to stationary-bed, transitional, and fully moving cuttings conditions.

Horizontal-well flow-regime map

The map identifies three cuttings-transport regions. Experiments showed that turbulent conditions provide the most effective hole cleaning without formation of a stationary bed.

Electrical Resistance Tomography conductivity map showing the cross-sectional distribution of drilling fluid and a solid cuttings bed in an annulus.

Imaging cuttings concentration with ERT

Electrical Resistance Tomography provided a non-invasive view of phase distribution inside the annulus. Changes in conductivity distinguish the liquid phase from the accumulated solid-cuttings region.

Side-by-side comparison of CFD-predicted cuttings distribution and an ERT experimental tomogram in an inclined annulus.

CFD model validation against ERT

The CFD model was validated against experimentally measured ERT phase distributions. Both methods reproduce the stationary bed, moving-cuttings region, and relatively cuttings-free region of the three-layer transport mechanism.

CFD contours showing the evolution of a cuttings dune in an inclined annulus at successive simulation times.

Transient evolution of a cuttings dune

Transient simulation tracks how the cuttings bed develops and propagates through the inclined section, revealing the evolving stationary and moving portions of the dune.

Laboratory annular flow-loop setup used to investigate drill-cuttings transport under inclined-well conditions.

Inclined-well experimental flow loop

Experiments used a 6.16-m annular flow loop with variable inclination and drillpipe rotation, combining high-speed visualization with quantitative ERT measurements.

High-speed camera visualization showing stationary, rolling, backward-moving, and suspended cuttings in an inclined annulus without drillpipe rotation.

Cuttings motion in an inclined well

High-speed imaging revealed several simultaneous particle-transport mechanisms in the inclined well, including stationary deposition, rolling, suspension, and gravity-driven backward movement.
